ChallengeBus approaches your challenges differently. Within your organisation you’re bound by structures and fixed ways of working. During a ChallengeBus expedition you step out of them completely. Together we select the people we believe are essential to reaching your goal. They come from all parts of your company. During the trip you depend on each other, and working together is the only way forward. What emerges during the trip changes your company. New connections, better mutual understanding and often the start of a solution, a new product, a better process or finally an answer to something that has been on the agenda for years but kept getting lost in the daily grind.
At the office you can always get away. A meeting that stalls, an idea that gets uncomfortable, a deadline that’s getting too close: there’s always another appointment, a full inbox, a phone call or a good reason to be somewhere else. On the bus that way out doesn’t exist. There’s nowhere else to go and no ‘I’ll get back to you on that’. Walking away means 14 metres at most, and you can still hear each other. The only option is your team, reaching your goal while the kilometres tick by beneath you.
That sounds like a constraint, and in a way it is. But it’s precisely the constraint that does the work. Once the usual escape routes disappear, something changes in how people work together. They get to the point faster. They say things they would never say out loud at the office. And because nobody can leave the meeting room, everyone stays at the table until the problem is solved, not until time is up.
Static. Always a way out, always a reason to walk away.
Moving. No way out, nowhere else, only forward.
Arne Hulstein organised the first StartupBus Europe, where complete strangers boarded a bus and stepped off seventy-two hours later as six teams, each with a startup. What stayed with him wasn’t the startups themselves, but what the combination of confined space, time pressure and enforced proximity did to a group of people. He wanted to make that power available to organisations, not just to individual entrepreneurs who happen to meet on a bus. That’s how ChallengeBus was born.
The full story on the About us page →A retreat lasts an afternoon and ends with a group photo and good intentions that are forgotten by Monday. A hackathon brings strangers together who never speak to each other again after the weekend. ChallengeBus does something different. It sends people who are part of a group, without a real connection, out on the road for a few days. A journey with no way out, until you’ve built something together that you believe in yourselves. That’s something you take with you every day. A fun day fades.
